Washington Parish Jury Finds Bogalusa Man Guilty of Second-Degree Murder, Illegal Use of Weapons and Aggravated Battery

March 4, 2022

District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that on Friday, February 25, 2022, a Washington Parish jury unanimously found Damion D. Thompson, 30 of Bogalusa, guilty as charged of second-degree murder in the death of Marcus Tennison a 36-year-old Bogalusa man. He was also charged with illegal use of weapons and aggravated battery.

On August 13, 2020 at approximately 10PM, the Bogalusa Police Department received a report of multiple gun shots in the area of Austin Street at Coburn Street. The victim was found and had been shot seven times and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Law enforcement were able to locate eye witnesses, and one told police that he had seen the defendant shoot the victim outside of a bar. The witness claimed that the motive was jealousy over a relationship the victim had with the defendant’s girlfriend. There was a second victim in this matter, a 40-year-old Bogalusa man who happened to be in the line of fire was shot in the hand.

Defense counsel presented an alibi defense on behalf of the defendant but it was inconsistent with the statement the defendant gave to police.

District Judge Raymond Childress presided over the case. ADAs Luke Lancaster and Tiffany Dover prosecuted the case. D.A. Warren Montgomery extends his appreciation to District Attorney Investigator Tommie Sorrell, the Bogalusa Police Department and the Hammond Police Department who assisted in bringing Thompson to justice.

Thompson faces mandatory life in prison with no possibility of probation, parole, or suspension on this second-degree murder charge, up to 20 years on the weapon charge and up to 10 years on the aggravated battery charge. He will be sentenced on April 11th before Judge Childress.
