Our office often partners with other agencies
and community groups.

Partnerships

Our Office sometimes partners with community organizations for charitable purposes. For example, we have held successful blood drives at the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center to help local blood banks increase their blood supply at critical times. We also partner with non-profits and other public agencies in the pursuit of justice for victims of crime. See below some of our office’s key partnerships.

Hope House

The Children’s Advocacy Center-Hope House is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse in our community. Trained staff members conduct forensic interviews of children who have been abused, and those recorded sessions are often used in court proceedings to help us achieve justice on behalf of our child victims. The agency also provides ongoing therapy, family advocacy, and free child abuse prevention trainings to the community at large.

“We would not be successful in prosecutions, we would not have the interviews that we need, and the children would not have a shot at rebounding without the counseling services provided by Hope House. I cannot stress to you the importance that the Hope House serves for our community.”

–Collin Sims, District Attorney

In this video D.A., Collin Sims discusses the work that Hope House does for abused children and the agency’s role in our office’s success. He also discusses the importance of the training the agency provides to educate the community about child abuse. Finally, he discusses the agency’s major annual fundraiser, Men Who Cook. Safe Harbor and the Coordinated Community Response Team

Safe Harbor provides crisis intervention, safety planning, emergency shelter, empowerment advocacy, and other supportive services to survivors of domestic, family, and dating violence. Our domestic violence prosecutors and victim advocates work regularly with Safe Harbor to achieve justice on behalf of domestic abuse victims.

Our office also partnered (along with Safe Harbor) to form the Coordinated Community Response Team in which a number of agencies work together for the following purposes: to provide coordinated interagency responses to domestic violence, ensure victim safety, meet victims’ needs, hold the offender accountable, make the system and legal process feel less overwhelming and disjointed for victims, and take collective responsibility for a victim’s experience and safety throughout the process.

 Northshore Technical Community College

We have partnered with Northshore Community College to offer help to eligible participants in our Pre-Trial Invention Program (also known as Diversion). Together with the community college, we are able to offer participants the opportunity to enroll in an educational program with the assistance of a counselor, who helps the potential student choose a career path and secure financial aid. Specialty Courts

We work alongside our Judges in the 22nd Judicial District to direct offenders who qualify for special consideration to our Specialty Courts. Through extensive monitoring, counseling and targeted services, these courts aim to address the underlying problems that can cause criminal behavior. The offender must first accept responsibility for the crime by pleading guilty and, in lieu of jail time, is ordered to received needed help, such as anger management or drug counseling.  In the 2015 video to the right, former District Attorney Warren Montgomery and others discuss Behavioral Health (or Mental Health) Court.  Our jurisdiction has more specialty courts than any other in Louisiana.
